Arts and Entertainment in Abbotsford BC

Arts and culture scene taking off in Abbotsford. Which three BC Cities have professional symphony orchestras?

Thanks to the presence of the Abbotsford Symphony, our city can take its place beside Vancouver and Victoria.

The symphony, directed by Johan Louwersheimer, regularly attracts packed houses to its concerts showcasing the best in classical music.

The city also boasts a community orchestra, the Fraser Valley Symphony, which also presents an annual series of concerts.

The MSA Museum Society, mean while, works to preserve the city's history. It oversees Trethewey House, a heritage home, and operates the city archives.

While a bid to create a full-fledged museum and arts centre on Mill Lake was defeated in a 1999 referendum, work hasn't stopped.
The MSA Museum Society is in the process of conducting a strategic plan for its future, while the Abbotsford Arts in an effort to create cohesive cultural plan for all of Abbotsford.

And in the meantime, the city has access to some first-class cultural facilities: the 700-seat Abbey Arts Centre, a partnership with the Abbotsford school District, and the 400-seat Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, which acts as council chambers and is also available as a venue for concerts and other events.

It also has three library branches, one of which has the largest circulation in the Fraser Valley Regional Library system.

If you can't find culture here, you're just not looking hard enough.
